The instrument seen in the last post is a Gittern, The instrument seen in the last post is a Gittern, a small plucked instrument with four courses (double strings). The earliest mention of the Gittern dates back to around 1270. At first it was played for nobles and courts, but from the 1330s it started showing up in taverns among the common folk. In 1381, in London, three friends were arrested for causing a racket with their gitterns, ending them up in jail for a month! #medievalmetal #gittern #doommetal
